All in all I thought this was a quality short story. The author managed to build the Borg’s home world in a few short pages. She filled it will a society that believes in advancement and learning, and then tears it down a few pages later. I think Reed also makes the Borg Queen an interesting...

Good story that gives a backstory to the Borg and the Borg Queen. The only downside is that it was fairly obvious early on that she was being transformed into the Borg Queen and I would have liked to have seen more of the story devoted to the building of the first Borg Cube. I look forward to reading more by this author.

Dialogue was stilted. Narration was even worse. But it was a very well-structured story, and given that this was the first story Reed ever sold, I can't be too critical.

Overall: 3/5.
