I'll echo many of the other comments. While the execution wasn't the best, the message and the ending more than made up for it.

Agree with other sentiments, one of the times Trek did a idea well if execution was a bit off. Kept wanting a big question mark on Bele’s chest. Not sure if this was before or after his role of the Riddler on Batman. Yes, that foot chase was bad. Also, apparently they leave the transporters unguarded.

Very good episode. The anti-racism message might be a bit in-your-face (quite literally) but it has great direction - particularly during the self-destruct sequence.

I also like the fact that they didn’t go for the obvious ending where the two aliens realise they’re exactly the same and decide to get along. Instead they opted for the more realistic yet more downbeat ending of the two them still being unable to see beyond the other’s skin colour, despite all the pain and destruction already caused.

I would have locked both of them in the brig basically immediately, but I'm used to aliens on board Federation starships being trouble.

The basis for racism really is that simple and dumb. I applaud Star Trek for this episode. Also, anytime you can get Frank Gorshin for a guest appearance, I am happy.

I will also give 4 stars...

Despite the foot chase scene ;)

While the execution of the episode is really bad at times, the fact that it attempted to grapple with the basic questions of why does skin color matter is awesome... especially for a show in the 60s...

I don't normaly rate individual episodes of the earlier stuff but this gets a 4 star....
